World Health Organization’s Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared the rapid spread of monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern, which is the organization’s highest level of alert. The Philippines reported its first case of the disease late in July 2022 and a month later in the fourth week of August, the Department of Health already detected its fourth case.
Most common symptoms of monkeypox are fever, headache, back pain, exhaustion, and swollen lymph nodes followed by painful and itchy rashes present on or near the genitals as well as on other areas like hands, feet, chest, face and mouth.
It is important to note that people with monkeypox remain infectious until all the lesions have crusted over, dried, and fallen off with a fresh layer of skin having formed underneath.
What is Monkeypox?
Monkeypox is a viral illness that caused an outbreak to expand in early May 2022. It is a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted from one person to another through close contact with an infected person, animal or material contaminated with the virus.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the illness typically lasts for 2-4 weeks. The symptoms start to show within 3 weeks of exposure to the virus and if someone has flu-like symptoms, they will usually develop a rash 1-4 days later that can initially look like pimples or blisters.
What can we do to keep safe against the Monkeypox virus?
The most notable ways on how to prevent yourself from getting infected with the monkeypox virus are minimizing close physical contact, getting tested, and frequently disinfecting objects and surfaces that are used a lot.
Focusing on disinfection, we want to highlight the use of EPA-registered disinfectants or disinfectants reviewed and approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its safety and effectiveness.
Biotab7, locally known as Bioguard and distributed by International Sanitization and Protection Suppliers (ISPS), is part of EPA’s List Q or qualified disinfectants for emerging viral pathogens. Its registration number is 91399-2 and it is effective for use against Tier 1 and Tier 2 viruses like monkeypox and SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus), respectively.
The powerful Bioguard is a medical grade-antimicrobial disinfectant perfect for hospital, industrial, and residential sanitization. It can target a wide range of harmful bacteria in just a short period of time because it contains chlorine dioxide, an active ingredient approved by the U.S. EPA for household and various commercial uses. What’s also great about this product is that it is multipurpose, making it convenient for anyone who owns it.
Since 2020, we have been fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic and now that the outbreak of monkeypox poses a new health threat in the world, we need to continuously strengthen our defenses to battle with these unseen viruses that put our health system, our lives, at stake.
